Phrases like “smart haircuts” and “boiler suits” instead of “coveralls” pop up frequently, which is quite noticeable to American readers. While it’s not as glaring as some examples I’ve encountered, it can be jarring. Nevertheless, I’m willing to give another book a try.

At times, the narrator’s eloquence feels out of place, especially given that the story is told from Kris’s first-person viewpoint, which can be somewhat disorienting.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and was eagerly anticipating this sequel. While I found it to be good, it didn’t quite match the depth of the first book. Potential spoilers ahead – one issue I had was the main character’s blind trust in someone he has no real reason to trust, other than her being an attractive woman who reminds him of a past love interest. It felt reminiscent of those Batman movies where he says, “I have no reason to trust you, but here’s my secret!” Another concern was how the feared agency was portrayed as a group of incompetent fools, and the main character seemed to regress in his development. Overall, it’s a decent read, and I’d recommend continuing the series, but as the story expands, it seems to have lost the buddy-cop dynamic and the sense of discovery between the protagonist and the nano, which made the first book so captivating.
