SETUP
Setting up the drone was easier than I anticipated. At first, the instructions seemed complicated, but following them was simple. The app also provides guidance for calibration.
FLYING
The drone flies impressively well. It’s stable and easy to maneuver, maintaining altitude without any input from the controller, which is particularly beneficial for video recording. It can reach impressive heights—I managed to get it up to around 50 meters. It appears to fly slower near the ground, which might be by design, but it speeds up significantly at higher altitudes. Battery life is around 20-25 minutes, but the extra battery included is a great addition. With both batteries, I have more than enough time to accomplish my filming goals.
VIDEO and PHOTO
The camera captures great photos and decent videos. While the picture quality is solid, the video frame rate could be better, around 15-20 frames per second. This is my main critique of the camera. The gimbal does an excellent job of stabilizing the footage, minimizing shake and keeping the camera level during side movements. Occasionally, the gimbal may misalign slightly, but it usually corrects itself. Keep in mind the price when assessing the camera’s output—don’t expect the professional quality found in drones over $1000. For its affordable price, I’m satisfied with its performance. The app connects easily for live video feed, though there can be some lag, which can be annoying but doesn’t hinder usability. The videos and photos transfer to your phone via the app, although they aren’t quite as high quality as those saved to a micro SD card, but the difference is minimal.
STURDINESS
The drone feels robust and not flimsy at all, and it’s heavier than I expected, which adds to its sturdiness. It survived getting tangled in tall grass and a crash landing when my dog knocked it down, with only minor scratches on the propellers.
